Operación Puerto

Okay, what can I say about this:

from velonews.com:

“News that Saiz was caught red-handed with a refrigerated bag containing frozen blood and €60,000 in cash proved too much for the American sponsor.

Authorities raided four apartments Tuesday and claim to have found 200 packages of blood as well as thousands of doses of human-growth hormones, EPO and anabolic steroids that included codes to indicate which rider should receive the injections.”

…bummer… well I guess that’s what happens when you CHEAT sucka!

Coincidentally I had my first run in with USADA (us anti doping agency) today. I had to notify them that I am on a puffer so I can breathe. They seemed like pleasant enough people.

Burritos

We had a burrito party with the nerds last night and I was reminded of this picture. I understand it is not very “PC” but it is still hilarious!

"Busy" Week

It is kind of funny how my definition of busy has changed over the past year, but this week has been 2006 busy. Number 1 fan and I have decided to move out of The 25 Lynwood and into the world of home ownership. I would have never imagined that searching for a new place to call home could be so physically exhausting. These realtor types insist on taking the stairs over the elevator, i guess this avoids the awkward elevator conversations, but man it is tiring! Number 1 fan has been taking step class this semester and drops me every time we start climbing.
I have been having trouble breathing over the past few weeks, so I paid a visit to Jennifer my NP (Nerd Practicioner). She put me on a puffer and hopefully this will clear things up. They also diagnosed me with bradycardia. Sounds scary eh!? Well it mean I have a low heart rate. The Doc. and Jennifer acted like I was going to die on the spot, “Do you know that your heart rate is 43!” I was like yeah, so? About two dozen tests later they determined that, imagine this… I am in extremely good physical condition… shocker.
Oh yeah, we did some races this weekend too. When I say we, I mean Number 1 fan and I raced; my teammates… I think they were at the beauty salon. Anyways, on Sat. I rode up to Rhode Island and raced a crit. The race was called the Great New England Criterium Throw Down, pretty bold name for a race that only had about 35 guys in it. I tried to escape many times from the pack, but it didn’t work out. It was a good 6 hour day of training.
Sunday was a great circuit race. I broke my front derailuer before the start of the race…hmmm…well I guess I’ll big ring the whole thing. Not really my style, but I made it work well enough for 11th. Oh yeah, my sprint forgot to make the journey to the race with me, I got last in my group :(
To top the busy week off, we went bowling with the Yale Nerd Students last night. This time I wasn’t the only guy (”Not many males in your profession are there Folker?”), but was by far and away the worst bowler. I think my arm is going to be sore for the next week. You should have seen the look on the guys face when I gave him the 6 pound ball I was using and asked for a 5 pounder. Oh yeah for those keeping track, Cass beat me and is ahead in the series.

Crazy Hat Day

Oh it is update time. I’ve been kind of slow on the updates, which is similar to my racing speeds of late. I’ve talked to Dr. Testa and I have a plan to fix both over the next two weeks, so stay tuned…

Saturday was a crit in New Jersey. I headed down to support the team, since it was in their hood, and I’ve heard we have a fine sprinter. On the start line I looked around and was surprised to see I was the only bright orange clad rider in the race…. hmmm. I flatted four laps into the 50 lap event, no problem right? Well apparently it was a wheels in/ wheels out event. I put no wheels in, so no wheel came out with me… so game over…weird that they wouldn’t let me take a wheel out. .. this is very different than So-Cal.

Sunday - Bear Mt. - More teammates promised… I think I saw two on the start line but must have been mistaken because I saw the same guys in the feed zone… sure would have been nice to have some help chasing the early/suicide/winning break back. I felt good, which is important.

Number 1 fan update…..
Today was crazy hat day at YSN (Yale school of nerds). Here’s a picture of Numero Uno showing school pride:

Look mom, I gave the school $150,000 and they gave me a Hat!

5th of May

Happy Cinco De Mayo.

This video has nothing to do with cinco de mayo, but hey it is crazy. How did this guy survive?

  • Luckiest Guy in the World

  • So this one may seem to be a little bit raunchy at first, but hang in there it is hilarious!

    Back Home Again

As I was driving home last night I was thinking how redneck Virginia is. My phone rang and it was my mom calling to see how the race went. We started talking and I said what are you up to? She said, “Not much, we’re in the truck towing the trailer to go pick up the tractor from so and so’s house.” We finished our conversation and I went back to driving and listening to the NASCAR pre race show on the radio… wait a minute… NASCAR, in the truck going to pick up the trailer… none of this seemed out of the ordinary… OH NO I’M REDNECK TOO!
