Lights, camera, action… in Buellton?

Team Type One is about halfway through our 1st training camp of the year. Everyone seems fit and pleasant to be around. Not only does the team have four riders with Type 1 Diabetes, but we also have five riders from the southern hemisphere including a few who are on their first trip to the US. We started by breaking the Aussies and Kiwis in right with some good ole’ fashion BBQ ribs for dinner the first night. They are slowly embracing our super sized culture and each day a new person shows up for breakfast with a huge coffee travel mug that we Americans are so fond of. There is even talk of one unnamed Aussie leasing a H3 to get the full American experience and with gas at almost $4/ gallon, why not?! Our days have been filled with media training, sponsor education training, photos, and even some riding. TT1 has a powerful message to deliver to the diabetic community this season and I encourage you to learn more about the team here: www.teamtype1.org A documentary director, who is also a type 1 diabetic, heard about the team’s mission and will be following and filming us throughout the season. This has added a certain rock star element to the camp as everywhere we go people are mic’d and a small army tags along with video and sound equipment. I’ll try to get some pictures to post of my sweet race rig and the team.

  1. Cass says

They are not diabetics, they are individuals with diabetes. Aren’t they teaching you anything there???

  2. I am offended, appalled, and outraged by your ignorant labeling of me. I am bringing this matter to the next meeting of my activist group: Individuals with Diabetes In Outrage Towards cyclistS. Only I.D.I.O.T.S don’t want to be called diabetics.
