Last Race

As I took my jersey off after the U.S. Professional Road Race Championships, it hit me, this was my last race for Team Type 1. For the past three seasons I have had the pleasure to represent a team that raced to inspire people to acheive their goals and fullfill their dreams through proper management of their disease. Many of my teammates were not only professional cyclist, but they live with a disease and conquer it everytime they enter a race.
When I first joined TT1 in 2008, it was a new program with what seemed like lofty goals and dreams. I am proud to say that during my tenure we acheived many of those goals. It is with bit of disappointment that we didn’t reach one of our goals; to see a rider with diabetes on the top step of a professional road race podium. With the projected growth of the team and quality of riders, I know it is only a matter of time before that happens.
Thank you to all of the people at Sanofi-Aventis and our other sponsors who made this team and its dreams possible. Thank you to the riders and the staff for being like family to me. I wish you all the best in 2011.
I am excited for the next chapter in my career. In 2011 I will be flying the flag for United Healthcare Pro Cycling. The team has consistently been the top domestic team in America for most of the past decade and is the definition of professionalism. I join the team as they begin to expand to Europe and I look forward to the new races and challenges.
The remainder of 2010 is full of entertainment. I will enjoy a short (2 day) offseason then aim to move one spot up on the Cross Vegas podium. I am stoked on this fall’s cross project. German engineering has joined forces with British fashion to create a cyclocross team that is garanteed to turn heads. The Rapha-FOCUS Professional Cyclocross Team will debut this Wednesday with our goals not only on the 2010 National Chanpionships, but with our eyes focused on Louisville Worlds.
